Best Restaurants in Point Loma
Since moving from North Park to Point Loma two years ago, I've had a lot of fun exploring San Diego's favorite peninsula. Point Loma has long been known as a residential community, but recently chefs/restauranteurs have put down roots in this coastal neighborhood. Without further ado, here's a list of my Top 5 favorite restaurants in PL:
5. The 3rd Corner Wine Shop & Bistro - 2265 Bacon St
This is by far the best wine shop in Pt. Loma, and possibly all of San Diego. Not only do they have a fantastic selection of wines at reasonable prices, but their food menu is equally as impressive. If you purchase a bottle from the wine shop to have with your meal, you have the option of paying a modest corkage fee or you can pay the retail price and enjoy it at home. For those of you living in/near North County, you're in luck: they have an Encinitas location.
What to order: Spicy sausage penne and a bottle of red wine... don't hesitate to ask their knowledgeable staff for recommendations.
4. Old Venice Restaurant - 2910 Canon St
Old Venice has stood the test of time within the restaurant industry as it has been around for over 30 years... which is a loooong time by San Diego standards. It's a romantic Italian restaurant with an aesthetic+ambiance as relevant as it was when it first opened its doors. This is the perfect place for date night.
What to order: Rigatoni bolognese. The table bread is also to die for.
3. It's Raw Poke Shop - 4991 Newport Ave, A
Yes, the #3 spot is reserved for a hole in the wall, cash only, raw fish joint in the heart of Ocean Beach. It's a simple menu and affordable. The fish is always fresh and the Kalua pig is delicious. They close whenever they sell-out, so plan accordingly.
What to order: Poke plate with kimchi ahi+wasabi ahi+half rice+half edamame.
This cozy Indian restaurant is also my go-to for takeout. I've tried four curries here and they're all amazing. The flaky samosas are perfectly cooked and the mulligatawny is divine, especially on a cold overcast day.
What to order: Tikka masala curry and channa masala with raita chutney and garlic/cilantro naan.
1. Little Lion Cafe - 1424 Sunset Cliffs Blvd
I'm a fan for life. This also happens to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Luckily, I live two blocks away. It's a seasonal menu, so there's constant evolution within chef Anne-Marie's dishes. The intimate cafe offers a delectable brunch, but dinner is the star of the show.
What to order: Fried Jidori chicken and mashed potatoes.
Sure, there are other places I dine at, but these five are held close to my foodie heart. Hopefully these restaurants give you another excuse to visit for something other than the beautiful beaches and views.
